Kaliachak:
A series of incidents involving the disappearance of minors and young men under the jurisdiction of Kaliachak Police Station in Malda district has caused serious concern across the entire area. Over the past four months, several minors and youths have mysteriously gone missing from the Kaliachak police station area. As each case appears to have some connection with Farakka, the mystery and fear surrounding these incidents continue to deepen.
In the latest case, three persons from the Sujapur area under Kaliachak Police Station have gone missing together. The missing individuals are Hasanur Sheikh (17), Tausif Kazi (17), and Riyaz Khan (26). According to family sources, they used to travel daily to areas adjacent to Farakka in Jharkhand for their work of buying and selling old, broken plastic and scrap iron. As usual, they left for work on Saturday morning.
Family members said that they last spoke to them over the phone at around 8:30 pm on Saturday evening. The missing persons informed their families that they had reached Farakka and were on their way back home. After that call, their mobile phones were switched off. When they did not return home despite waiting throughout the night, the family members became extremely worried. The next day, a missing diary was lodged at Kaliachak Police Station.
According to the families, the business of old plastic is widespread in the Sujapur area, and for the past one month, the three had been travelling together to Farakka and various parts of Jharkhand. However, their sudden disappearance together has raised serious suspicion and mystery.
This is not the first such incident. Earlier too, several minors had gone missing from areas adjacent to Farakka.
Thirteen-year-old Noor Alam from the Guduagram embankment area under Kaliachak Police Station has been missing since September 30, 2025. Family sources said that Noor Alam, who worked at a timber factory, had gone to Farakka by toto with wooden materials on the morning of the day he went missing. He never returned home thereafter.
Similarly, 18-year-old Imran Ali from the old 16 Mile area under Kaliachak Police Station has been missing since September 27, 2025. According to his family, he had gone to Farakka a day before he disappeared. The next afternoon, he went missing from the vicinity of the 17 Mile National Highway.
In another case, 13-year-old Ali Hossain from the Karari Chandpur area under Kaliachak Police Station has been missing since September 14, 2025. The family claimed that friends had informed them that Ali Hossain had gone towards Farakka, but he too never returned home.
Significantly, in every missing case, a missing diary has been filed at Kaliachak Police Station, and in each instance, information has emerged that the person had travelled to Farakka before or at the time of disappearance. Local residents and prominent members of the area are questioning, “Why are minors and youths from Kaliachak repeatedly going missing after going to Farakka? Is there some organized racket operating behind these incidents?”
The repeated occurrences have created fear and anxiety among the general public.
Local residents have demanded that the police administration immediately form a special investigation team to probe the matter in depth and increase surveillance in Farakka and adjoining areas. Otherwise, locals fear that these mysterious disappearances may take a more serious and dangerous turn in the coming days.
