January 1, Gazole Malda: ASHA workers submit protest deputation with eight-point demands

At the call of the West Bengal ASHA Workers’ Union, ASHA workers across the state have been observing an indefinite work boycott since the 23rd of this month. The agitation is being carried out with an eight-point charter of demands, including an increase in honorarium, the protesting ASHA workers stated.

As part of the movement, on December 24, ASHA workers staged a sit-in demonstration in front of the Gazole Block Medical Officer of Health’s office, where a large number of ASHA workers were seen participating.

Continuing their protest, on Wednesday, December 31, at around 2 PM, ASHA workers submitted memorandums outlining their demands to the Gazole Block Development Officer (BDO) and the Superintendent of Gazole State General Hospital. Through the deputation, they demanded an immediate increase in their long-pending honorarium, formal recognition of their work, and the fulfillment of other demands.

The ASHA workers made it clear that their protest and work boycott will continue until their legitimate demands are met. Although their agitation has affected health services, the protesters stated that they will not withdraw the movement until their demands are fulfilled.
