Kaliachak Malda: Assault on Kaliachak Residents in BJP-Ruled Odisha; Left Leaders Visit Families and Pledge Support

Residents of Bagicha Bari in Kaliachak, Ismail Sekh, and resident of Marupur, Sukhruddin Momin — both from Malda district — were attacked in BJP-ruled Odisha.

Ismail Sekh was assaulted at Khurda Road, Khudiyari in Odisha, and Sukhruddin Momin was beaten in Bhubaneswar, after being labeled as “Bangladeshi Muslims.”

In front of the police, members of the RSS and Bajrang Dal refused to recognize their Aadhaar and PAN cards. They were beaten with police batons and were forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram,” along with being threatened with death. Terrified, they returned home, leaving behind all their belongings.

Meanwhile, our state’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee remains silent. No representatives from the administration have yet stood beside the affected families, nor have they even visited.

We — Comrade Syed Hasan Iqbal Miya, Secretary of CPIM Kaliachak-1; Comrade Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Secretary of CITU Kaliachak-1 Block; Comrade Latifur Momin, President of CITU; and Comrade Ibrahim Sekh, District Secretary of AICCTU — met the affected families and assured them of our full support.

After speaking with our district leadership, we will contact our trade-union leadership of CITU in Odisha and approach the administration there. At the same time, we will raise the matter with our block, district, and state administrations — and if needed, we will build a movement on the streets.
