Sambalpur, Odisha:
The murder of Jewel Rana, a migrant worker from Murshidabad district, in the Shantinagar area of Sambalpur district in Odisha, has caused widespread grief and tension. Former Baharampur MP and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury visited the home of the deceased Jewel Rana on Sunday.
On this day, he spoke with the Odisha police and discussed with the administration how to prevent such tragic incidents from happening again in the future. He also emphasized the need to strengthen the investigation into the incident and improve the security arrangements for migrant workers.
Adhir Chowdhury met with the family members of the deceased and offered his condolences. Strongly condemning the incident, he said that the failure of the central and state governments regarding the safety of migrant workers has once again come to the forefront. He commented that the harassment and loss of life faced by Bengali workers while working in other states is extremely worrying.
Furthermore, questioning the role of the administration, Adhir Chowdhury demanded a swift and impartial investigation. He also demanded exemplary punishment for the culprits and adequate compensation and government assistance for the family of the deceased worker.
It is worth noting that Jewel Rana, a resident of Murshidabad, was recently murdered in Sambalpur, Odisha, where he had gone for work. Following this incident, a new debate has begun in political and social circles regarding the safety of migrant workers.
