Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Alleges Administrative Hurdles in Meeting Bengali Migrant Workers in Sambalpur
Berhampore:
Former Congress Member of Parliament Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is set to visit Sambalpur in Odisha today to meet distressed Bengali migrant workers. While preparing for the visit, he alleged that the local administration in Sambalpur has adopted a non-cooperative attitude and is intimidating the workers and creating various obstacles to prevent them from attending the meeting with him.
Speaking to reporters in Berhampore, Chowdhury said that a large number of Bengali migrant workers currently working in Sambalpur are facing severe difficulties. They are grappling with issues related to employment, housing, and security. The primary objective of his visit, he said, is to assess the situation on the ground and listen to their grievances. However, he expressed deep concern over reports of administrative obstruction surrounding this peaceful and humanitarian programme.
The former MP further stated that meeting and interacting with migrant workers from his own state is his constitutional right and is completely legal. There is no scope for curtailing this right under any circumstances. He made it clear that the visit has no political motive and is purely part of his humanitarian responsibility.
After reaching Odisha, he has appealed to the local administration to ensure that no obstacles, intimidation, or interference are created in connection with the proposed programme. The issue has triggered intense political discussion across various quarters.
