Malda:
Ahead of the Assembly elections, thousands of people have finally breathed a sigh of relief. After years of neglect, improvement work has begun on the Bengal–Bihar connecting road in the Kapai Chandi area under Kushida Gram Panchayat of the Chanchal Assembly constituency in Malda district.
Due to the poor condition of this road, residents of not only West Bengal but also Bihar had been facing severe daily hardships. Villagers alleged that despite repeatedly informing the MP and the MLA over a long period, no concrete action was taken. Finally, on the initiative of Zilla Parishad Karmadhyaksha Rabiul Islam, the process of upgrading this crucial road has begun.
The foundation stone for the road work was formally laid by Zilla Parishad Karmadhyaksha Rabiul Islam by cutting a ribbon and breaking a coconut. According to sources, the construction work has started at an estimated cost of around ₹27 lakh under the Fifteenth Finance Commission funds.
As soon as the work began, a wave of happiness spread across the area. Local residents believe that once the road is completed, commuting will become easier and there will be significant relief in business activities and daily life. However, villagers also stated that despite having a BJP MP, not only was there no work, but the MP was rarely seen in the area. Even after informing the MLA, no solution emerged.
They claim that most developmental works in the area are being implemented solely through the initiative of the Zilla Parishad Karmadhyaksha. Overall, after a long wait, the start of the road work has brought happiness to the general public, while the development has further intensified political tussles ahead of the elections.
