Gazol, January 2:
Students of Mayna High School in Gazol staged a protest alleging that the school authorities were charging excess admission fees. On Friday, the students locked the main gate of the school as a mark of protest.
As their anger grew, the students also blocked National Highway 12 at the Mayna bus stand and continued their demonstration for a long time. The students claimed that the admission fees being charged were higher than the government-prescribed rates. They said that many of them come from poor rural families and are unable to afford the additional fees being demanded by the school authorities. Protesting against this, the students blocked the national highway for nearly half an hour.
On receiving the information, police from Gazol Police Station rushed to the spot. After holding discussions with the students, the police cleared the national highway blockade. The students then entered the school premises and continued their protest.
Later, a meeting was held involving the students, teachers, and the police to discuss the issue. As of the time of filing this report, no final decision had been reached.
