PM Modi Hosts Round Table Discussion with Sundar Pichai and Tech CEOs on AI and Semiconductors
While on a three-day visit to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met in New York with prominent American innovators and leaders in the technology sector from a range of industries, including biotechnology, semiconductors, and electronics, to have “fruitful” discussions about what potential India may have for innovation in advancing these fields and bringing them to a wider audience.
Â
In addition to Noubar Afeyan, the chairman of Moderna, and IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, Google CEO Sundar Pichai also joined the round table discussion.

“Had a productive roundtable discussion about technology, innovation, and other topics with tech CEOs in New York. emphasized the advancements India has made in this area as well. PM Modi posted on X following the talks, saying, “I am happy to see enormous optimism about India.
Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on X that the PM “emphasized India’s growth prospects and discussed initiatives to foster collaboration and innovation across diverse sectors.”
Â
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) organized the meeting with the main objective of fostering positive relationships and fruitful dialogue with industry leaders in order to investigate potential opportunities for cooperation between the industries they lead and represent in the US and India. The key components were biotechnology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing.
Â
The encounter took place the day after US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Modi had separate talks at Biden’s Delaware home. Both leaders recognized and applauded each other’s efforts during the discussions to facilitate a semiconductor supply chain. The recently established GlobalFoundries (GF) Kolkata Power Centre, which attempts to assist both nations in the research and development of semiconductors, was also addressed.
Â
Â
A White House fact sheet summarizing the discussions states that the two leaders decided to continue US-India cooperation in promoting and developing cutting-edge technology, such as artificial intelligence and sophisticated semiconductor processors.
Prior to the CEO round table, PM Modi spoke to a sizable group of Indian Americans who had gathered on Long Island to hear from the head of their own nation.

PM Modi is scheduled to address the “Summit of the Future” at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on the third and last day of his tour.
